All Men Are Created Equal Tour

This 90-minute guided experience takes visitors through the history of the United States from its founding through the Civil War, exploring how the nation's ideals clashed with the reality of slavery and how these tensions ultimately pulled the country apart. You'll tour both the historic Carter House building and its grounds while learning about the decades-long struggle over what equality truly meant in America. This particular tour offering is unique to Tennessee and won't be found elsewhere in the state. Tours run at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and tickets are $29 per person. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early. All proceeds support the creation of a new museum and exhibit space at the Carter House visitor center, set to open in 2026 with this same theme at its heart.
