All Men Are Created Equal Tour

Guided tour of the historic Carter House exploring the American Revolution.

This 90-minute guided tour explores how America's founding ideals clashed with the reality of slavery, tracing the nation's path from its beginning through the Civil War era. You'll walk through Carter House—a significant 1830s property that served as a Union Army headquarters during the 1864 Battle of Franklin—while learning about the decades-long struggle over what equality truly meant and how disagreement over slavery pulled the country apart. This unique tour is available nowhere else in Tennessee. Tours run at 9 a.m., Monday through Saturday, with tickets priced at $29 per person. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early. All ticket proceeds support the design and opening of a new Carter House visitor center launching in 2026, which will feature exhibits centered on this same theme. You can purchase tickets online or learn more by calling ahead.
