All Men Are Created Equal Tour
Historical tour of Rippa Villa exploring early American heritage.
This 90-minute guided tour explores how the United States grappled with the meaning of equality from its founding through the Civil War era. You'll walk through the historic house and grounds at Rippa Villa while learning about the decades-long conflict over slavery and how it ultimately divided the nation. This particular tour is unique to Tennessee and offers a thoughtful way to engage with this pivotal period of American history.
The tour costs $29 per person and is offered at 9 a.m. on Mondays and Fridays—please plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. All proceeds benefit the development of a new exhibit and museum opening in 2026 at the Carter House visitor center, which will also focus on the theme of equality. This is a wonderful opportunity for families interested in history to deepen their understanding of how this nation's founding ideals were tested during the Civil War.
