All Men Are Created Equal Tour
Guided tour exploring Civil War history at historic Carnton plantation.
This guided tour offers families a chance to explore American history through the lens of one of the nation's most pivotal questions: what equality really means. Over 90 minutes, you'll walk through Carnton's house and grounds while learning how the United States evolved from its founding through the Civil War era, tracing the decades-long conflict over slavery that ultimately divided the country. This particular tour isn't offered anywhere else in Tennessee, making it a unique educational experience.
Tours are scheduled for 9 a.m. on weekdays (Monday through Saturday), so plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Tickets are $29 per person and can be purchased online. A portion of every ticket sold supports the creation of a new exhibit and museum at the Carter House visitor center, launching in 2026 with this same theme. It's a meaningful way to deepen your family's understanding of this critical chapter in American history.
