America the Beautiful: National Parks & Landmarks by Rail

This summer, Cheekwood transforms its gardens into a cross-country train adventure celebrating America's most iconic destinations. The exhibition features 10 operating model trains traveling over 850 feet of track, showcasing 25 beloved landmarks from the Statue of Liberty to the Golden Gate Bridge, plus Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains. What makes this display truly special is the craftsmanship—every miniature structure is hand-built from natural materials like willow branches, cedar, moss, and pinecones, creating botanical artwork that's as beautiful as it is detailed. It's Cheekwood's largest train installation to date. Kids will love exploring this temporary exhibition in the Bradford Robertson Color Garden, and families can extend the fun by visiting Cheekwood's year-round TRAINS! exhibit for even more model train magic. Throughout the season, Saturdays and Sundays feature food vendors on-site, making it easy to grab lunch while you explore. Special Tuesday daytime programs in May include art activities and scavenger hunts perfect for younger children. Tickets are required to visit, and this limited-time experience is a wonderful way to spark curiosity about American geography and engineering.
