Discovery Design Time

Observe microscope slides, then turn discoveries into oil-pastel art.

Discovery Design Time invites kids to become both scientists and artists by exploring the world through microscopes and creative expression. Children will select a prepared slide—perhaps examining the delicate veins of a butterfly's wing or the intricate structure of a plant cell—and observe the tiny details under a real microscope. They'll then use oil pastels to recreate what they've discovered on card stock, capturing the patterns, colors, and textures they found while learning about scale, perspective, and observation. This hands-on program is perfect for curious kids who enjoy both discovery and art-making. Each session features a different theme, so families can return for fresh experiences. During this one-hour session, children will work with actual microscope technology and develop new vocabulary while practicing artistic blending techniques. It's a wonderful way to spark interest in science and see how everyday objects reveal hidden beauty when viewed up close.
