Discovery Design Time

Shred, paste, and layer paper to build a textured holiday tree while learning structure and proportion.

Discovery Design Time invites kids to create their own paper mache tree during this hands-on art session. Participants will shred and layer green-toned paper strips around a cardboard form, learning about structure, proportion, and design principles as they build. Along the way, children discover how paper size affects their creation—too-large pieces create unwanted folds, while tiny strips won't hold the form together. This is a great way for young crafters to explore a classic technique with roots stretching back centuries. Discovery Design Time runs weekly on Thursdays, with each session featuring a new theme and activity, so families can return for fresh creative experiences. This particular session is part of the center's "25 Days of Discovery" program. It's designed for children who enjoy hands-on projects and enjoy learning through making. Check the Discovery Center's website or call for current admission pricing and any registration details you might need.
