Family Firefly Hikes

Evening nature hike to spot fireflies at Owl's Hill Nature Sanctuary in Brentwood.

Join us for an evening adventure designed to spark kids' curiosity about the natural world after dark. During these family-friendly hikes, young explorers will discover what makes owls such skilled hunters, learn why fireflies glow, and experience how their vision adapts when the sun goes down. You'll meet live owl ambassadors, listen for nighttime sounds, and watch for nocturnal wildlife as you walk through the meadow and orchard on a mostly flat trail with just one short hill. The hike runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and works for children ages four and up (younger toddlers can come free if carried, but strollers aren't permitted). Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children twelve and under. The sanctuary gates open 30 minutes early, so arrive with a packed dinner to picnic beforehand. Wear proper hiking shoes and bring insect repellent—and leave flashlights at home to protect the wildlife. If a session fills up, you can join the waitlist. Programs run rain or shine unless severe weather warnings are issued.
