Free Wednesday at NMAAM
Free admission to NMAAM on Wednesdays — explore African American music history.
On the first Wednesday of each month, the National Museum of African American Music opens its doors to visitors at no cost, thanks to sponsorship from Nissan. Just arrive during museum hours, check in at the front desk, and explore the galleries at your own pace. It's a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the history and cultural significance of African American music without worrying about admission fees.
This particular Wednesday also features "Sounds in Cinema," a special screening program that pairs documentary films with the stories behind them. You'll watch curated films that connect African American music to cinema history, and the events often include live conversations with the artists, producers, and music professionals involved in creating the work. It's a chance to experience music history in a deeper, more interactive way.
