Waukesha County Parks Presents Community Science: Dragonflies

Free nature exploration: learn about dragonflies with county parks.

Get your teens excited about citizen science this summer! Waukesha County Parks is hosting hands-on dragonfly observation sessions where young participants will learn how real scientists study wildlife and gather field data. You'll head out into the field to conduct an invertebrate survey, tracking dragonflies and damselflies alongside knowledgeable staff. No background in science is required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore. Best of all, participants can earn volunteer service hours while contributing to actual research. Sessions run throughout the summer at different park locations across Waukesha County, with times ranging from one to three hours depending on the date. Since activities take place outdoors, make sure your teen dresses appropriately for whatever weather comes their way. The program is designed for ages 13 and up, and admission is completely free. It's a meaningful way for teens to spend a summer afternoon while making a real contribution to scientific discovery.
